Our Mission

The El Paso Museum of History Foundation mobilizes resources for acquisition, conversation and education that helps the El Paso Museum of History tell the evolving story of the Pass of the North.

Our History

The Friends of the El Paso Museum of History was organized in 1991 as a Texas not for profit organization to provide supplemental funding for the El Paso Museum of History.

In 2006, the Friends of the El Paso History Museum was renamed the El Paso Museum of History Foundation. With the opening of a newly constructed Museum of History its mission crystalized into mobilizing resources for acquisition, conservation and education to help the El Paso Museum of History tell the evolving story of the Pass of the North.

In 2016 the El Paso Museum of History Foundation became a supporting organization of the El Paso Community Foundation. This relationship provides the Museum of History Foundation with the opportunity to focus on its fund development activities with the support, including administrative support, of the El Paso Community Foundation.

O PASS OF THE NORTH, NOW THE OLD GIANTS ARE GONE — WE LITTLE MEN LIVE WHERE HEROES ONCE WALKED THE INVIOLATE EARTH

Circle of Giants

We have now opened the Ninth Wall of Giants, namely, El Paso Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas which also celebrated their centennial on June 17, 2018. The El Paso Branch fills an important role in the economy of West Texas and Southern New Mexico. The bank ships and receives billions of dollars annually to supply vault cash for regional banks and other depository institutions. The El Paso Economist and Research Department conducts regional research, specializing in the border economy, and also collects current economic intelligence from the board of directors, financial institutions, businesses and government leaders in order to support monetary decisions. After garnering this economic insight the branch shares knowledge of the economy through publications, speeches and presentations, and other outreach efforts. The El Paso Branch also works to improve basic financial literacy and economic understanding through programs aimed at a variety of audiences. The El Paso Branch of the Federal Reserve plays an integral role in the strength and economy of our region. Come join us in recognizing and honoring our next “Giant” of El Paso’s history and community between August 31, 2018 and February 28, 2019.

The El Paso Museum of History was established in 1974 as the Cavalry Museum, but quickly filled a scope and purpose beyond its title by functioning as a local history museum. In 1980 the name of the museum was officially changed to the El Paso Museum of History. In 2000, El Paso citizens, poised to explore and celebrate its place in Texas history, passed a bond election approving $6.5 million to construct a new two-story 44,000 sq. ft. Museum of History located in downtown’s El Paso’s Arts District.

Staff and collections moved into the new building in early 2007 with a public dedication on June 16, 2007. The El Paso Museum of History serves the largest continuous border metroplex in North America.
